Samsung’s New Folds, Flips & Apple Clones

As the rest of the tech assiduity shifts to overproduced infomercials for their product launches, Samsung is holding presto to its love for giant live events in huge arenas. This time, the company blazoned a whole lineup of new widgets at Unpacked in Paris.

The new Fold and Flip look nice but also a bit uninspired; the Watch Ultra and Kids 3 look nearly too familiar; and the Galaxy Ring might be the morning of commodity really cool.   On this occasion of The Vergecast, we discuss all of Samsung’s adverts and try to figure out whether “ Apple products but for Android ” is a winning strategy.

It might be! Plus, we debate what to make of Samsung’s kindly lackluster upgrades for the Flip and Fold phones —  perhaps these just aren’t the smartphone shapes of the future. Or at least not yet.    After that, we talk about a weird week in the streaming biz, from the perhaps- eventually- really-  passing Paramount/ Skydance deal to the brewing end of Redbox to Instagram’s kindly surprising plan to not try and do long-form videotape.
